What You'll Learn
Aussie Conditions
Look, I've seen too many pristine 70 Series Cruisers ruined by a 'quick rinse' at the servo on the way home. Salt gets everywhere, especially in our coastal humidity, and once it starts pitting your metal, you're in trouble. This is the exact process I use for my own ute after a weekend at Fraser or Noosa. It's not just about the paint; it's about the bits you can't see.

What You'll Need
The De-Salting Process
Heavy Underbody Flush
Start here. Use the water broom to flush the chassis rails. I once spent 40 minutes flushing a HiLux and sand was still coming out. Keep going until the water runs clear.
Engine Bay Mist
Gently mist the engine bay with salt neutraliser. Don't high-pressure the electrics. I learned that the hard way on a black Commodore, expensive mistake. Rinse with low pressure.
Snow Foam Soak
Cover the whole car in foam mixed with salt remover. Let it dwell for 5-7 minutes out of the sun so it can lift the salt film.
The Two-Bucket Wash
Standard wash from top to bottom. Use plenty of lubrication. Sand is sharp, and if you're not careful, you'll swirl the paint to hell and back.
Wheel and Arch Detail
Get right inside the arches. Salt loves to hide on top of the fuel tank and inside the bumper bars. Reach in and feel for grit.
Flood Rinse and Dry
Rinse thoroughly, then dry it fast. In our 40-degree heat, water spots set like concrete in minutes. Use a big drying towel or that leaf blower.
