Summer Interior Revival Checklist

Aussie Conditions

Australian conditions are tougher than most—intense UV, red dust, coastal salt, and 40°C summers. European car care advice often doesn't cut it here.
Quick Summary

Look, I've spent 15 years cleaning everything from dust-caked LandCruisers to messy family SUVs, and summer is always the worst. Between the 40-degree heat and the kids bringing half the beach home, your interior takes a beating. This guide is a quick-fire checklist to help you deep clean and protect your cabin from that harsh Aussie UV.

01

The Essential Gear

What You'll Need

0/8
Modular Vacuum — Needs a crevice tool. I use a BigBoi SuckR, but any decent shop vac does the trick.
Interior All-Purpose Cleaner (APC) — Bowden's Own Agent Orange is a cracker for tough grime.
Soft Detailing Brushes — Essential for getting red dust out of the air vents and seams.
Microfibre Cloths (at least 6) — Fresh ones only. Don't use the same rag you used on the wheels.
UV Protectant — Aerospace 303 is my go-to. Don't touch the greasy 'shiny' stuff from the servo.
Glass Cleaner — Ammonia-free so you don't cook your window tint.
Upholstery Brush — Stiff bristles for carpets, soft for leather.
A cold brew — It's February in Australia, mate. Stay hydrated.
02

Pre-Start Sanity Check

What You'll Need

0/4
Park in the shade — Never clean a hot interior. Products will flash off and streak instantly.
Clear out the rubbish — Empty the door pockets. I once found a 3-month-old prawn peel in a client's ute. Not a fun day.
Check for hidden 'surprises' — Look under the seats for loose change, pens, or French fries.
Test a small spot — If you're using a new cleaner, try it on a hidden bit of trim first.

The Interior Process

Tap each step to mark complete
01

The Big Blowout

Use a brush or compressed air to flick dust out of cracks and vents before vacuuming. It makes the actual suck-down much faster.

02

Deep Vacuum

Go over the carpets twice. If you've got red dust, use a massage gun on the carpet to vibrate the dirt to the surface. Works a treat.

03

Hard Surface Scrub

Spray APC onto your cloth (not the dash) and wipe down. Use a brush for textured plastics. I learned this the hard way, overspray ruins electronics.

04

Leather or Fabric Clean

Use a dedicated leather cleaner or fabric foam. Don't soak the seats; just work the product in and wipe the grime away.

05

UV Protection

Apply your protectant to the dash and door cards. This is vital in February to stop the Aussie sun from cracking your plastics.

06

Glass Clarity

Two-cloth method: one to apply cleaner, one dry one to buff. Ensures you won't get those annoying streaks when driving into the sunset.

04

Final 30-Second Walkthrough

What You'll Need

0/4
Check the pedals — Make sure they aren't slippery from overspray. That's a safety hazard.
Seat tracks — Did you get the crumbs out of the rails? Customers always check there.
Screen smudges — Wipe the infotainment screen one last time with a dry microfibre.
Door jambs — Give them a quick wipe. It's the first thing you see when you hop in.

Watch Out

Avoid silicone-based 'gloss' dressings on the dashboard. Not only do they look cheap, but the glare off the windscreen in the midday sun is actually dangerous. Also, keep your windows cracked a tiny bit if you're using heavy cleaners so the fumes don't knock you about.
